Puri Saraswati Bungalows has recently completed its new lobby. It is elegantly constructed of white Palimanan stone and beautiful carving on the pillars. The lobby is welcoming to guests and has a warm and friendly feel to it. The lobby was the last of a complete renovation program that included all rooms, restaurant, pool and gardens. Now Puri Saraswati Bungalows is fully prepared to pamper their guests with all these new amenities and facilities. What hasn’t changed is the friendly staff, who will remember your last visit with delight or make your first visit memorable.
During a stay at Puri Saraswati Bungalows, you will be surprised to learn that the property is part of the Royal Palace and adjoins Temple Puri Saraswati, one of the most often photographed sites in all of Bali and certainly the most photographed in Ubud. The temple is directly next to the Bungalows and has a private entrance from the Bungalows.
This Temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Knowledge, Dewi Saraswati, and it is to this very special temple that many villages from the surrounding area come to make Barong and Rangda masks. The carving is done under the supervision of the Royal Family and the carving is renowned for its beauty.
The Temple has a spectacular entrance gate and open stage, where dance performances are regularly scheduled in the evening. During the day, there are often ceremonial processions arriving at the temple to either celebrate the beginning of mask carving or to joyfully bring Barongs or Rangdas back to home temples. These processions are remarkable for beautiful color and music and an entire village turned out in ceremonial Balinese dress.
Puri Saraswati Bungalows is home to an important branch of the Ubud Palace family, (Puri Saren), and you can watch the comings and goings of the families in their every day activities…true Balinese life in action.
Directly next to Puri Saraswati Bungalows is Cafe Lotus, part of the Bungalows complex. Café Lotus serves a selection of delicious gourmet dishes in a gorgeous setting…looking out on the famous Lotus Pond and the Temple Saraswati gate. In bloom, the lotus flowers are huge and brilliantly pink. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner complete with a wide selection of drinks.
Puri Saraswati Bungalows is centrally located on the Ubud Main Road, truly in Ubud Village…just a minute’s walk from the Royal Palace, Ubud Market and Puri Lukisan Art Museum. The Sacred Monkey Forest is just down the road and internet cafes and shopping are all close by. Enjoy.
