Beautiful Lake of Disaster (Toba Lake)

Incomplete feel if you visited the North Sumatra did not stop for a moment to Lake Toba, volcanic lake which is the largest lake in Indonesia, and even Southeast Asia. Exotic charm vast expanse of the lake like a sea with shady trees and hills, charming. The lake, measuring 1700 square meters with a depth of approximately 450 meters and lies 906 meters above sea level, in the middle of the lake there is Samosir Island became the object of not less interesting excursions.

During his visit in 1996, Prince Bernard of the Netherlands even expressed his admiration for the beautiful panorama of the lake. "Sell me name to this lake. I can not describe how beautiful Lake Toba, "he says enthusiastically.

There are seven districts around the lake, namely Simalungun, Toba Samosir, North Tapanuli, Humbang Hasundutan, Dairi, Karo, and Naidoo who has a wonderful natural panorama and a tourist destination location. Generally, tourists enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba Parapat in Simalungun and Tuktuk Siadong on Samosir Island.

It is estimated that Lake Toba explosion occurred at about 73 thousand-75 thousand years ago and is a super volcano eruption (super volcano) the most recent. Bill Rose and Craig Chesner from Michigan Technological University estimate that volcanic materials spewed out of the mountain as much as 2800 km ³, with 800 km ³ of rock Ignimbrite and 2,000 km ³ of volcanic ash which is expected in the wind to west for two weeks.

Volcanic dust in the wind has spread to half the earth, from China to South Africa. Explosion occurred during the week and throw the dust up to 10 km above sea level.

This incident caused mass death and, in some species, also followed by extinction. According to some DNA evidence, this eruption also reducednumber of of people to about 60 % of the total human population of the earth at that time , which is about 60 million people . The eruption was also contributed to the occurrence of ice ages, although the experts still debate.

After the eruption, the caldera formed which is then filled with water and became what is now known as Lake Toba. Pressure upward by magma that has not come out cause the emergence of Samosir Island. While enjoying the beauty of this lake, you might not imagine that the charm of the place comes from the catastrophic volcanic eruptions that brought fear and horror at the time.
Travel overland to Lake Toba, precisely to Parapat, takes four to five hours from Medan. Available bus or travel directly to Parapat. The route through the Lubuk Pakam, Cliff High, and turn toward Siantar. Alongthe trip , wewere treated to a panorama of palm oil and rubber plantations .

When using the train, from Medan select a route to Siantar. From here the journey continues by bus to Parapat. Left sails through one hour.

For a place to stay and stay longer to enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba, there are many hotels and inns. In Parapat, there are at least 900 hotel rooms of all types, ranging from four star to homestay, in Tuktuk also not different. Both in Parapat and Tuktuk, tourists can instantly enjoy the lake from the rim. Rates for hotels in Parapat Tuktuk and varied, according to typical tourists who come. Starting from Rp 30 thousand to USD 500 thousand per night depending on the type of hotel.

A travel companies even offer to enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba from the air, ie use paragliding. Every tourists are given the opportunity to fly using the paragliding from the mountains Tongging, Karo District, North Sumatra. For tourists who want to try paragliding will be accompanied by an experienced instructor, but of course determination can fly or not depends on weather conditions and wind.

Not only that, enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset you can enjoy from the coastal lakes. From the Karo highlands on the north, the lake looks elongated beauty viewed from Sikodonkodon. However, there is only one resort here. On the west side, views of the lake and the island of Samosir can be perfectly seen from the Tele. There is a viewing post at an altitude of about 1,000 meters from sea level to enjoy the sunset on Lake Toba.

Still Much Beauty in Toba

Google_ad_section_start ->
Surprisingly, in Field not many people are enthusiastic about the Lake Toba. Southeast Asia's largest lake that save picture "dirty", "full basket", to "forest bare." A high school teacher, said residents of service to tourists in Parapat is not good. People can buy mango cheated. Fortunately, a friend said, "Lake Toba is broad, we enter from the other side." The words that reinforce our intention, not to mention the memories of a childhood idol, Julius Sitanggang, whose voice still ringing in his ears: Lake Toba ... oh Lake Toba ... beautiful lakes and gorgeous ....

Departing on Sunday morning, we headed Sidikalang from Medan, Dairi, to meet some friends. After that headed Tele, one of the best angle to see the Lake Toba. In Sidikalang, we received information on the existence of lakes in Lake Toba, on Samosir Island lake. Lake Sidihoni name. An image of the ideal journey.

Our trip had hesitated continue after seeing several trucks carrying Sidikalang the famous durian. Buy ... not ... buy ... not .... "There's also why in Medan, even already wrapped in a plastic box, layered, ready to enter the plane," said Maringan S Pardede, residents Sidikalang.

Road between Sidikalang and Tele through coffee plantations and orange, alternating with fields where horses graze alongside children who exult, joking as she bathe in clear water.

Lake TobaJam already showed at 17.00 pass, when once in a while, little by little, Lake Toba presents itself, among the hills. So mysterious all at once poetic atmosphere.

Tele is one of the best angle for the public to see Lake Toba. A viewing tower standing in the corner. On the left side looked Mount Pusuk Buhit, mountain Batak mythology, which is shrouded in mist and clouds. On the right side several waterfalls flowing from the cliffs of Lake Toba. In front of the tower, Lake Toba lies. Light rain falling, cold, but not piercing.

Some people who come to the Tele often muttered, Tele reminds them of the mountains in the movie Lords of the Rings.

That day the road from Tele to Samosir Island downhill middle widened. Rider safety is at stake. Rock cliff on the left side of landslide prone, while tens of meters gaping chasm on the right. Bergeronjal streets, damaged. Unfortunately, the beauty of Lake Toba hide the death due to poor infrastructure.

Fish soup

The sun was almost drowned when a sudden we felt strange car on the road shake the flat. An incident occurred: our car tires burst. Honestly, we do not know the name jack, let alone a spare tire. Luckily, a young man passing from Medan with his host and bone willingly stretched out under the car looking for spare tires hook that has been rusted and help us change the tire.

Lake TobaSekitar seven in the evening we arrived at Pangururan, the largest city on the island of Samosir. We stayed at Ambarita, greeted Jumaga Gultom, the host who invites conversation on the terrace with a sound background of violent crushing of water of Lake Toba, a distance of two meters from where we sit.

Jumaga wife, Masrida SIH serve menu that day, the fish soup of Lake Toba, the newly created because it was our only guest on that cold day. No more missing, after a bowl of hot soup with pieces of tilapia fish fresh tomatoes eaten with warm rice.

Chat flowed there-here, the lake water rose several feet in recent times, until the foreign tourists who never came back since the Bali bomb attacks. Quite a lot of domestic tourists, but most stop at Parapat.

Had we looked at each other when the house owner told me about Lake Sidihoni. "The truth can be just half an hour from Pangururan, but because of bad roads two hours could be more," he said. In my heart I said, the tires can be broken again, here.

We leave at six in the morning to Sidihoni. In huta-huta aka villages along the way, the faces of small children emerge from the traditional house, while their mother in the yard sweep. Fields and the tomb where the bones of their ancestors are buried back Batak ceremony on Holi Mangongkal lined the roadside.

"Boru What are you, host?" Light a warning that glide easily lead to a long conversation about husbands, wives, children, grandchildren, to life. Our trip was simple, but real, into the lives of its host and Amang in Samosir, not just watching something artificial.

Lake TobaPerjalanan from Pangururan to Lake Sidihoni past the ramp that not only severely damaged, but destroyed. Road seven miles to be implemented within two hours. Fortunately, the view of Lake Toba from the top is very beautiful. Lake Toba even visible in a 180 degree wide angle. Pine forests and wild flowers along the way there.

Sidihoni

In the midst of meadows and fields, revealing Sidihoni Lake, Lake Toba lake above it. On the banks of the lake that intangible the hill looks a little old church.

There are no tourist bustle around a deserted lake. Only a coffee shop with some guy who engrossed menongkrong with pool table and a cup of coffee. "In the past there are Western tourists often camp here, they like to swim in the lake," said Naibaho, a local resident.

Sidihoni TobaDanau Lake is located in the middle of a meadow in the village of Ronggur Nihuta, the highest village in Samosir situated at an altitude of about 1,500 meters. According Maruhum Simalango (73), community elders, the area was forest undergrowth. Swamp in the middle of the jungle thicket was later turned into a lake. It happened hundreds of years ago.

Maruhum story, there are stories behind the calm water of the lake can reach a broad maximum of 5 hectares with a depth of 90 meters this. Occasionally the lake is visible nodes so invite the tourists to swim.

There are special moments when changing the color of the lake following the conditions of this republic. "Been twice this lake is red, time 30 September 1965 and the time Suharto fell," said Marihun.

When we were there, right on the second day of the legislative election campaign (17 / 3), the shrinkage of the lake water was turbid brown. I do not know what that means ....

cheng beng tradition and walk around Medan city

April of 2009, my family and I went to Medan. Our whole family went with the intention to pray for our ancestors or commonly called tradition Cheng beng. Every once a year, we are enjoined to continue the tradition in ini.Memang sound a bit old, but the name of tradition should be maintained so as not to become extinct. Not only animals that could become extinct, even if not a tradition we preserve will certainly disappear. Fortunately my filial piety towards parents.Even we don't want to but certainly must to do,it is mandatory.^_^

My hometown was in the depths of Pakam, not far from the city of Medan. I live in Lubuk Pakam for 4 days and 3 nights. The first day was an exhausting day of having to prepare equipment and supplies to pray to the ancestral cemetery. The second day I woke up at 5 am. The plan went to the cemetery early so much cooler atmosphere. Understandably if the evening time, the atmosphere closely like a hell.Really-really hottttt....

but i really enjoy it this ceremony..I really like from Lubuk Pakam is food.Because i ate alot of delicious food.whiches like nooodle, kwetiau,Padang rice...really yummy, full of B2(a.k.a Pork meat) .he2222...

day 3 ,I was just visiting relatives from his mother's side. Just walk just because the location of the house of brothers with one another not too far away.

day 4 I just make a plan went to Medan city by Damri Bus.This is the local bus that i like it.Because not too crowded and also clean. The aproximate time from Lubuk Pakam to Medan take 45 minute. Stick the plan i already went to Medan at 06.30. Confuse where to go, I just sitting and eat some bread also order a couple of tea at Tip Top cafe.

Rantau Prapat

The mainland departure point for Danau Toba, Parapat has everything a transiting tourist needs: transport, lodging and supplies.

The commercial sector of the town clumps together along the Trans-Sumatran Hwy (Jl Sisingamangaraja, aka SM Raja). Branching southwest towards the pier, Jl Pulau Samosir passes most of Parapat’s hotels. After 1km, a right fork (Jl Haranggaol) leads to the pier, another kilometer southwest. The bus terminal is 2km east of town, but most buses pick up and drop off passengers from ticket agents along the highway or at the pier.

Information
There is a string of moneychangers and a wartel along Jl Haranggaol.
BRI bank (Bank Rakyat Indonesia; Jl SM Raja) Has an ATM.
Planet Wisata (Jl Haranggaol) Internet access for 10,000Rp per hour.
Post office (Jl SM Raja)

Sleeping
You’ll have to crash for the night if your bus gets in after the last boat to Samosir. Here are a few options:
Hotel Singgalang (Jl SM Raja 52) A big Chinese-run place with basic rooms and a downstairs restaurant.
Charlie’s Guesthouse (Jl Tiga Raya 7) Beside the ferry dock, Charlie’s is cheap and close; it’s run by a local Toba music legend.
Mars Family Hotel (Jl Kebudayaan 1) On a quiet street near the waterfront, this place has a variety of unremarkable rooms from windowless boxes to more-expensive options with lake views.
Hotel Toba (Jl Pulau Samosir 10) If you’re not in a hurry to get out of Parapat, Hotel Toba has breezy common spaces, a sandy beach and solid rooms.

Eating
The highway strip (Jl SM Raja) is well equipped to feed the passing traveller, with every variety of Indonesian cuisine. Mr Diamond is the entertaining and enterprising proprietor of Blue Monday Coffee Shop (JI SM Raja). In addition to a cup of coffee, he’ll sell you a tour to the outlying countryside, sing a few old Western pop songs, book a bus ticket and, if you need accommodation, he’s even got rooms. Many of the ANS buses drop off foreigners here.

Getting There & Away

BUS
The bus terminal (Trans-Sumatran Hwy) is about 2km east of town on the way to Bukittinggi, but is not frequently used (so say the travel agents). Prices are highly negotiable, so shop around at the different ticket agents.
Buses to Medan (5 hours) are frequent, although services taper off in the afternoon. There are also minibuses that deliver passengers to Jl SM Raja in Medan. Other destinations include Sibolga (6 hours), Bukittinggi (15 hours) and Padang (17 hours).

If you’re heading south to Bukittinggi, you get to experience the hazing ritual of traveling the Trans-Sumatran Hwy. The highway is more like a back road and the trip akin to the spin cycle. Now you know how your socks feel.

Getting Around
Opelet shuttle constantly between the ferry dock and the bus terminal.

Back in 1934 atmosphere at Tip-Top Restourant in Medan

 Tip Top Medan

It was not yet exist in the field if you do not stop at the Tip Top Restaurant. The diner is very very legendary in the capital of North Sumatra. Who became the mainstay is the dish of ice cream, who defended the recipe from colonial times to current.
In Indonesia, already an antique ice cream restaurant very rare. Can be counted on the fingers deh. Aja called Ragusa in Jakarta, Surabaya Zangrandi, Toko Oen in Malang and Semarang, and one more yes Tip Top in this field....
Tip Top Medan - Anno 1934

Tip Top location in Jl. Kesawan or now called Jl. A. Yani, not far from downtown, kira2 about 15 minutes if driving.
Once Upon A Time in 1929, this restaurant stands Jangkie name. Continue moving to Jl. Kesawan year 1934, as well as changing the name so Tip Top. Who eats ice cream in that era certainly meneers aja-European meneers van Holland. Maybe not the same weather kukuw Indonesia who puanes, so they hooked seger2 who eat at this restaurant Tip Top.
It is said that until now the tools used in the kitchen cook who still authentic from a bygone era. Uniform of the waiter is also unique, wear long-sleeved white shirt, white trousers plus a cap on the head. So like so dehh Paskibraka .

 Tip Top Medan - Mexicanner

According to the waiter Paskibraka earlier, there is Mexicanner favorites menu. White vanilla ice cream drenched with chocolate sauce, three slices of peaches (cmiiw!) And cherry garnish coquettish thereon. Unfortunately cepet really melt this ice, cherry already Mexicanner tumble this time until the above table. Pake presentation stainless glass who was eating ice cream made dipake jadoel era.
As I always said before, because I'm not a fan of ice cream, I assessment of this dish far from objective So, if you asked about the taste, I think this Mexicanner okay kok. Ice cream texture, light, easy to melt in the mouth. Sweetness is also fitted, balanced sweet fruit character ama acid

 Tip Top Medan - Carmen
Carmen is another version of Mexicanner who is also a favorite guest at Tip Top. The difference is that this one is sprinkled with nuts. There's another one who called the Java Ice, ice, who cut the color brown. You strong coffee flavor listed on the tongue of every bite.
 Tip Top Medan - Kesawan

Who if you want to dish a little weight, could Cobain Special Fried Rice. Ga special here who just like a fried egg plus literally in abang2 nasgor-by in front of my house who was ditemenin ama belinjo several pieces of chips chips and two pieces of fried chicken, this is just a special name. Bener2 rice savory flavor, aroma also make you drool.
Overall, you are obliged to make stop here. From the side also the same price as Zangrandi Surabaya. For sure, here we bought a package .. buy the food, buy the the atmosphere
Price:Mexicanner - 5.12 KCarmern - 5.12 KIce Java - 13 KSpecial Fried Rice - 20
